The World Curling Championships are held bi-annually for the Jack MacKimmie - Silver Bell Trophy

The Rotary World Curling Championships, were originally proposed at a meeting during the Scottish Curling Fellowship Tour of Canada in 1972 between Chuck Hay - Rotary Club of Perth, Scotland (pictured left) winners of the Ram’s Head Trophy (Scottish Championship) and Aubrey Legge - Past 7040 District Governor and Past President of the Rotary Club of Montreal Westward, winners of the Can/Am Trophy, an annual North American competition between Canada and the USA.

The inaugural World Championships were held in Lachute, Quebec - Canada on 3rd November 1972, where teams representing Canada, Scotland and the USA competed. Since that time the event has been held bi-annually with hosting of the event alternating between North America and the United Kingdom.

The Bi-Annual Event is now a permanent fixture on the Rotary World Sports Calander where Countries compete for the coveted, Jack MacKimmie - Silver Bell Trophy and the title:  World Rotary Curling Champions.
