Rotary Club of Perth - Perth Silent Auction - 3rd December 2011

Perth Silent Auction - Final BiDs Saturday 3rd December 2011 - The format will be much the same as past years, with this years proceeds going to the Cornhill MacMillan Palliative Care Unit at PRI, CHAS at Rachel House, Kinross and a mix of our Club's other worthwhile causes.

Start looking and booking LOTS now for this year Perth Silent Auction, if you know of any company or person, who may have a LOT that they might kindly donate, now is the time to get on their case. What really makes the Auction such a success is the quality and variety of the LOTS, we would ask all members to approach their friends and business associates and acquaintances to donate a LOT for the auction, this is a most beneficial community project, now with a proven track record, so this should make it slightly easier than in past years, without LOTS it just cannot work.

There are a number of benefits for those who participate, all the Silent Auction items will be display listed on our Website, with Company Logo and/or a Picture, plus a direct link to the LOT donors' own businesses websites if they have one? Regular media coverage with published listings in the Perthshire Advertiser, up-to, during and after the Auction, great free publicity. The sooner the LOT is donated, the longer the exposure, so get on with the leg work, now and book these LOTS!

All Perthshire schools have been invited to enter pupils for our annual Young Chef of the Year Competition. The demonstration for the Young Chef competition is being held at Deans at Let's Eat on Monday 24th May 2010 at 1.00 pm with a number of Perthshire Schools entered in the Final which will be held at Perth Academy on the afternoon of Monday 7th June. Organiser Bill Roxburgh is delighted that Willie Deans of Deans @ Let's Eat, has again kindly agreed to offer the youngsters some tuition and judge the competition and also present the trophy and prizes. Wiliie, who co-sponsors the event with the Club, will provide the winner with a meal for two in his restaurant, as well as providing a prize for the best main course and the best desert. It looks like this year we will have Perth Grammar, Perth Academy and Perth High School, plus Auchterarder, Blairgowrie and Kilgraston, a total of 11, which will be great if they all turn up!Convenor: Bill Roxburgh

On July 16th a wonderful musical performance will take place in St Leonards-in-the Fields, with all proceeds going to charity. The evening has been organised by the Rotary Club of Perth who have invited the children from Leicester Grammar School to perform in our Fair City. Leicester Grammar School (LGS) was founded in 1981 and is a co-educational day school of almost 800 pupils aged 10-18, with a junior school of a further 350 pupils. Music is at the core of the school’s life, and LGS aim to cater for all, from the enthusiastic beginner up to those who intend to make music their career. About 30 ensembles rehearse on a weekly basis; these include choirs, two orchestras, two wind bands, a big band, folk group and many chamber ensembles. These ensembles are coached by specialists. In addition, there is a choral society which welcomes parents and locals for a major performance each year. There are regular concerts in school as well as many in the local community.

As well as the school ensembles, many pupils also play in county and national ensembles. Currently LGS is represented in the National Youth Chamber Orchestra, National Youth Wind Orchestra and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. The school aims for high standards. In May this year the LGS Symphonic Wind Band reached the National Festival of Music for Youth in Symphony Hall, Birmingham. Only 12 out of 500 entries gained this accolade. The school make a tour every three years. In the past LGS have played as far afield as Hungary, but in recent times they have concentrated on Scotland and Ireland. By linking up with local rotary clubs, it is hoped local fund-raising can be assisted at the same time as both the children & audiences enjoying themselves!

The programme for the concert in Perth will be drawn from the following, there should be something for everyone

The Rotary Club of Perth: Rotary Fayre - Saturday 29th August 2009 'UPDATE'

Rotary Fayre: Saturday 29th August 2009 - The Perth Rotary Club’s Charity Fayre in the city centre, has had to be brought forward this year by about 2 weeks, due to the extensive Council upgrade work on the Perth High Street, which will take place during September.

In 2008 we raised £3,300 for charity, this did not include the sum's raised by the other charity stands on that day!
Local charities are again going to be offered stands to run for the benefit of their own charities, nearly 20 local organisations took up this option in 2008 and benefited by being part of a much bigger charity event than they could hold on there own.

Club secretaries get your applications in now, we have only 26 stands that we can offer on a first come first served basis.

Bill Duncan - Vice President, Spoke with most of the Charities and they thought it had been a good day.

As an example, Crossroads Care Perth raised around £100 for their funds, this will allow them to take ten of their disabled clients on an afternoon outing, but more importantly, it raised awareness of what they are doing locally!
The Win-a-Car stall will again be ensconced on Perth High Street, outside the now vacant Woolworth Store.
