Rotary Club of Perth - Golf
Sunday 18 October, 2009 - Carse of Stirling Match The annual match against Carse of Stirling Rotary Club was played over the Lansdowne course at Blairgowrie. The result was a resounding 4-0 victory for Carse of Stirling. On the positive side our team were very well dressed and we took our defeat stoically – not one Perth Rotarian broke down until after our guests had departed. The Carse of Stirling team were as magnanimous in victory as we were in defeat and there was an atmosphere of good fellowship during the meal which followed the match.

Sunday 18 October 2009 - Golf match between the Rotary Clubs of Perth and Carse of Stirling.
About 15 years ago the youngest Rotary Club in District 1010 (Carse of Stirling) and the oldest (Perth) met in a Gavel Challenge. The good fellowship between the teams was such that Gordon Dow of Perth and Gordon Gourlay of Carse of Stirling agreed that an annual golf match should be played between the clubs. This year’s match took place over the Lansdowne course at Blairgowrie and resulted in a comprehensive victory for the Carse of Stirling team. More importantly the spirit of fellowship between the clubs is still as strong now as it was 15 years ago and a most enjoyable day was had by all.
Friday 18th September - Autumn Golf meeting at Auchterarder Golf Club On a grey but dry Friday afternoon, 13 golfers assembled at Auchterarder Golf Club, they were divided into 3 sections based on handicap, to compete for the Malcolm Miller Trophy, the Cairncross Quaich and the Charles Piat Pewter Jug. After the customary bacon rolls had been comprehensively despatched the golf began and some of the higher handicap players surprised their golfing partners (and themselves) by shooting net scores of 2 under par at the first and second holes. The excitement of these “four pointers” was maybe too much to cope with so they reverted to their more comfortable “no score” games in subsequent holes. After a most enjoyable high tea the trophy winners were announced.
The Malcolm Miller Trophy was won by Gordon Laing with an excellent score of 38 points just 1 point ahead of the runner up Peter Hamilton.
The Cairncross Quaich was won by Hamish Milne with 34 points and the runner up with 30 points was Ian McMillan.
In the Charles Piat Pewter Jug Allay Milne and Charles Evans both scored 30 points – Allay won the trophy on a count back.
Gordon Hay announced the winners and proposed the vote of thanks.

Friday 21st August, 2009 - Summer Golf Outing at Glen Isla Golf Club
On a bright and breezy afternoon,14 of Perth Rotary’s finest golfers assembled at Glen Isla to compete, in pairs, for the Valentine Rosebowl. It started out bright, but as we have come to expect in our “barbecue summer” some of the later starters had to contend with torrential rain and even hailstones near the end of their matches. Despite the elements, a great day out was enjoyed by all, in a very keenly fought contest, only 2 stableford points separated the top 3 teams. The winning pair of Ian McMillan and John McEwan played exceptionally well, particularly as they were in the last game out and had to contend with the worst of the adverse weather conditions. A special mention in despatches must go to Gordon Laing who had the highest individual stableford score and to Ron Clark who, having made a special request for ice cream was served an enormous portion by the Glen Isla catering team, the portion was so large that halfway through, Ron tried to get out of eating it all by hiding it under the table.
Gordon Hay presented the Trophy's and proposed the vote of thanks.
Friday 22nd May, 2009 - Eleven Members of the Club spenta very enjoyable afternoon at Crieff Golf Club playing in the Club's Annual Spring Golf Outing. Ian McMillan won the Malcolm Miller Trophy with a well fought for net score of 73. Hamish Milne just pipped Dr. Ron to the longest drive and Fergus Young won the nearest the pin on the 17th hole. The numbers were down but the weather more than made up for that, the Golfers Gorilla (grill) was the usual favourite for the high tea afterwards!!? What a great day out!

Thursday 4th September 2008 - Presidents Putter - Twenty members from the three Perth Clubs; Perth, Perth St.John's and Perth Kinnoull, met at Blairgowrie Golf Club to compete for the Presidents Putter. The competition was played over the nine holes of the Wee Course with three players in each group, being a mix of the different Rotary Clubs. Only three golf clubs were permitted to be used by each player, the choice of the clubs being left to each individuals choice, however one of them had to be a putter. The team's score was taken from the total of their three best net stableford points. Perth St.John’s Rotary Club emerged at this year’s clear winners stableford points. Handicaps covered a wide range of golfing prowess, and were adjusted to provide a fair test to all levels of skill, with never more than one stroke being allowed per hole.
Conditions were good, and in a wet summer a window of fair weather was found. An excellent meal was provided by Rosemount's newly appointed resident caterer, aptly named I.Cook. This was followed by the announcement of the results, and the coveted prize of the President's Putter was duly presented. The winning Club was Kinnoull, with Perth in second place, and with a much smaller entry (two came St.John's who have a current shortage of golfing members.
