FAIRVIEW SENSORY GARDEN

Fairview School opened in April 2008 amalgamating Cherrybank and Glebe schools to children and young people aged 2-18 with severe and complex additional support needs, purpose built accommodation. The school is located between Viewlands Primary School and Perth Academy and is part of this wider campus. The Head Teachers of these schools are working together to raise awareness of the opportunities offered by three schools being able to give a wide range of educational experiences for the children and young people on this campus. The vision is to create an inclusive campus. The new facilities offer spacious teaching areas, a specific nursery class, sensory room, hot water pool, a conservatory and landscaped learning and play area.

The issue is that the school was built on what were playing fields previously, thus, the grounds maintenance consists of solely grass cutting. The other areas are overgrown and we are developing the garden in this area. Also, planted areas are overgrown with weeds which we have sprayed, but, the area needs tidying up.

The picture on the left shows the area we are utilising to create the sensory garden, At this stage, it has been scraped off and marked out for the dry stane dykes which form a major feature of the garden. The plan on the right shows the layout of the garden when it is completed. The work on the garden has been carried out by members of the Rotary Club of Perth with help from Friends of Rotary. In particular, we are very grateful to the Dry STane Dykers who gave their time freely. Also, we have had considerable help from Jim Smith of Castlecroft Securities Ltd and we are extremely grateful for their support.

The pictures below show the Dry Stane Dykers, Jim and Rotary members at work.
